THREE LOCAL STEPS

How to convert HEIC to JPG

01

Choose your files

Choose HEIC or HEIF files. The tool checks the encoding, primary image, dimensions, color profile and capture date.

02

Review the settings

Choose original size or a smaller longest edge, quality and background. Keep capture date only is optional and off initially.

03

Preview and download

Convert, check the actual JPG preview, then download individual files or a ZIP. Your source photos stay unchanged.

Why your phone photo has a .heic extension

HEIC commonly stores photos encoded with HEVC inside a HEIF container. It can retain detail in relatively small files, but an application or submission form may ask for JPG instead. Renaming the extension does not change the encoding.

Choose the original HEIC when you can. Some photo pickers or sharing applications may supply a JPEG already. The tool identifies the actual contents and offers the JPEG metadata-cleaning tool in that case; it does not claim an HEIC conversion happened.

A primary photo, with its orientation applied

A still HEIC can contain a primary photo, grid tiles, thumbnails, depth images or other photos. This tool uses the declared primary image rather than assuming the first item is the photo. It applies the supported rotation, reflection and crop information once.

Only the primary still photo is exported. Extra photos and auxiliary images are not separate downloads. Image sequences, Live Photo video files, unsupported structures and damaged inputs are rejected with an explanation.

Color, transparency and supported photo sizes

This version supports validated 8-bit and 10-bit SDR HEVC images with recognized sRGB, Display P3 or BT.709 color information. The local decoder converts the image and the browser produces an ordinary 8-bit sRGB JPG. Wide-gamut colors outside sRGB can change. Unknown profiles, HDR and gain maps are not guessed or silently tone-mapped.

Inputs must fit 16 megapixels and 8,192 pixels per side. 24 MP and 48 MP photos need a smaller export first. Output is limited to 4,096 pixels per side and 16 megapixels; select Resize when original size exceeds this. Transparent areas become the chosen solid background.

Keep a capture date without copying location data

By default the JPG has no photo metadata. Keep capture date only rebuilds a small record containing a valid original capture date, its original timezone offset when available, and subsecond digits. It does not copy GPS, camera or lens information, comments, thumbnails, or the original metadata block.

An unavailable or invalid date is not replaced with the file modification date. A missing timezone remains unknown. ZIP entries can use the capture clock time between 1980 and 2107, with two-second precision and no timezone. Dates shown by the operating system after downloading or extracting can differ; use the date inside the JPG when you need photo metadata.

A local decoder with explicit limits

The HEIC decoder is downloaded from this site only when conversion needs it, and runs in a background worker. Files stay on your device; there is no server conversion fallback. Cancel terminates the current worker. Clearing a batch releases its retained file and preview references.

The limit is 50 files, 20 MB per file and 100 MB per batch, with a 64 MB retained-output budget and a 20-second per-image timeout. These limits are not a promise about peak device memory. Start with a small batch on phones and keep the tab open. The first decoder load needs a connection.

What to do when a HEIC file will not convert

Start with the reason shown beside the file. A 24 MP or 48 MP source needs a smaller export before it can be decoded here; lowering the JPG output size cannot bypass the 16 MP input limit. HDR, gain maps, image sequences and unknown color profiles need a supported still SDR export from a photo application.

If the file is actually JPEG, use the offered JPEG tool. Changing an extension cannot turn PNG, TIFF or a damaged file into HEIC. If decoding fails, try a fresh export from the original. If the browser runs out of resources or the conversion times out, try one photo, close unused tabs, or use a desktop browser. The converter does not modify your source photo.

Verify that your images stay on your device

Open your browser’s developer tools and the Network panel, then choose and convert an image. Site resources may load, but requests should not contain your file name, image bytes, or output. Optional analytics is off until you consent and excludes file details. Once all required resources have loaded, you can also test conversion with the connection turned off.

HEIC to JPG questions

Are HEIC photos uploaded?

Your files are inspected and processed on your device. No source files or results are uploaded. The website and image-processing resources still need to load; optional usage analytics runs only after consent and does not include file information.

Is HEIC to JPG free?

Yes. No account, watermark or daily conversion quota. The displayed file, pixel and batch limits still apply.

Does the JPG keep the original quality and resolution?

JPG is a new, lossy encoding. You can keep dimensions within the output limits or explicitly resize down. The output is 8-bit SDR sRGB; keep the HEIC original for its original encoding and color depth.

Can I keep the date my photo was taken?

Yes, when a valid original capture date is found and you enable Keep capture date only. It is off initially. The JPG then contains only the allowed date fields; GPS and other photo metadata remain removed. Downloaded file timestamps are not guaranteed to match.

Which HEIC variants are supported?

Validated static HEVC images with recognized SDR color information, including supported primary images, grids, and orientation transforms. Image sequences, HDR/gain maps, unknown color profiles, premultiplied alpha, and photos above 16 megapixels are outside this version. Browser support for background image processing is also required.

Why does my selected HEIC turn out to be JPEG?

A photo picker or sharing app may provide JPEG bytes even when your original photo was HEIC. The tool reads the contents and offers the JPEG tool for metadata cleanup. It does not relabel this as a successful HEIC decode.

Can I convert offline or cancel a large batch?

After the page, decoder and needed ZIP resources have loaded, conversion can continue offline in the open tab. Refreshing may need a connection. Cancel stops the current conversion worker, and unfinished files can be retried. Start with fewer images if your device is under memory pressure.

Do I need to install an app or a HEIC codec?

No separate app, extension or system codec pack is required. This site loads its HEIC decoder when conversion needs it. Use a browser with the required background image-processing support. The first resource download needs a connection; visiting the page alone does not make it permanently available offline.

What if my HEIC file will not convert?

Read the file error first. Oversized photos need a smaller source export; unsupported HDR or color variants need a supported still SDR copy. A wrongly named or damaged file needs the correct original or a fresh export. For a timeout or memory problem, try one photo and close unused tabs. Your original stays unchanged.

Separate JPG photos or one PDF document?

Choose JPG when a form requests an image, or when you want to edit, share or place each photo separately. A ZIP download groups the JPG files for saving; it does not turn them into document pages.

If you need a receipt as one PDF page or several photos in a chosen page order, use HEIC to PDF. It creates one image per page with A4 or Letter paper and adjustable margins. It does not add searchable text or OCR. Both tools process supported photos on your device.
